Money Sense: Great Credit

June 6, 2007--- When it comes to our credit standing, we spend a lot of time worrying about the penalties of having a low credit score, such as being handicapped in our ability to buy a home, a car or anything that involves managing a debt obligation. Unfortunately, we don't put enough emphasis on why it is worth making the sacrifices necessary to build our credit. The median credit score for all Americans is 723. Your goal should to be to equal or better that score. To motivate you, here's what's in it for you: You pay less to borrow money. The higher your credit score, the lower the interest rates you'll be able to get on your mortgage, auto financing, credit cards, etc.Money for your new business. If you are looking to become a first-time entrepreneur, and want a small business loan, your personal credit history will help to determine whether or not you will be trusted by potential lenders.A better job.

All’s shipshape for the future

THE majestic cruise ship the MV Balmoral sailed into Newry's newly-refurbished Victoria Lock on Thursday marking the completion of an 841,000 cross-border initiative.

The ship's short journey from Carlingford Lough, organised by Newry and Mourne District Council and Louth County Council, was to celebrate the official opening of Victoria Lock Gates by Rural Development Minister Michelle Gildernew.

Mayor of Newry and Mourne Michael Carr was also on board both the project and the ship.

"The original launch of this initiative back in June 2005 was one of my first engagements as deputy mayor and now two years on, with my term almost at an end, I am delighted to acknowledge the completion of yet another project undertaken by both councils," he said.

The project, which also saw the renovation of Carlingford Lough, was made possible by Interreg IIIA funding.

First Data Corp. buyout by KKR approved

Brussels, Belgium - Credit- card transaction processor First Data Corp. won European Union regulatory permission Tuesday to be acquired by private-equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. for about $27 billion in cash.

The European Commission cleared the deal automatically after identifying no antitrust problems and receiving no complaints from rivals.

The deal comes amid a flurry of public-company buyouts orchestrated by private-equity groups. The First Data deal would rank behind a proposed $32 billion buyout of the Texas utility TXU Corp. by a group including KKR and Texas Pacific Group. If that deal is completed, it would be the largest private takeover of a public firm in U.S. corporate history.

First Data, based in Greenwood Village, was formed in June 1971. In 1980, American Express Information Services Corp.

Assemblies hope for long-term credit markets

They meet fiscal targets and add to the capacity of municipal infrastructure whilst helping MMDAs to build a sound credit record."

Vice President Mahama proposed that the SFIs for the MMDAs should be institutions, which can be able to raise long-term resources on private credit markets and operate in a financially sustainable manner.

He said: "In addition, SFIs and municipal bond markets should play complementary roles in meeting local demand for long term credits. They should therefore offer alternative options in financing MMDAs even though their needs and capabilities vary in line with their economic size and resource base."

Mr. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning said the initiative would empower the MMDAs to access private capital to accelerate infrastructural development and service delivery.

Piggybacking Your Way to Better Credit?"

A bad credit score can ruin your chances of getting a loan, and some analysts say it could take years to fix the problem. But more people are turning to methods that could boost a credit rating within a few months.

There are no shortages of companies willing to help you improve your credit for a major purchase. Likewise there are no shortages of ways around a low credit score. Some methods take longer to fix potential problems than others.

New Age Credit Owner Roi Ring says,"It takes a while for that to resolve itself, at least, if you listen to the credit bureaus. I think the credit bureaus do it, in some regards, for the reason that it benefits them."

One very fast method is growing in popularity, and it's being called "Piggybacking" by some groups. This is when a customer with a low score pays to become an authorized user of credit cards belonging to people with a very high score.
