Q: I have been unable to get a loan from my bank because my credit is weak. I only need a few thousand dollars for working capital. Are there any lenders out there who are willing to take more of a risk than my bank? A: You might look at Acción Texas, a nonprofit lender whose mission is to help microentrepreneurs strengthen their businesses. Acción operates only in Texas and deals with small businesses like yours that fall just beneath bank guidelines and so are unable to obtain conventional bank financing. Acción is willing to work with businesses that have weak credit, limited experience or poor financial records. That does not mean, however, that there are no requirements for borrowers. Depending on the type of loan you want, you will have to put up collateral, show a good payment history with creditors such as landlords and suppliers, and demonstrate that you'll be able to repay the loan.
Couple need help with plastic debt
Dear Amy: My wife and I are deep in credit card debt. She is in sales and makes much more money than I do (for which she is resentful). Her employer reimburses her business expenses, but she rarely does the required paperwork.
Last year alone, this left us responsible for almost $10,000 in charges. She had a company credit card but mishandled it and the account was closed. All’s shipshape for the future
THE majestic cruise ship the MV Balmoral sailed into Newry's newly-refurbished Victoria Lock on Thursday marking the completion of an 841,000 cross-border initiative.
The ship's short journey from Carlingford Lough, organised by Newry and Mourne District Council and Louth County Council, was to celebrate the official opening of Victoria Lock Gates by Rural Development Minister Michelle Gildernew.
Mayor of Newry and Mourne Michael Carr was also on board both the project and the ship.
"The original launch of this initiative back in June 2005 was one of my first engagements as deputy mayor and now two years on, with my term almost at an end, I am delighted to acknowledge the completion of yet another project undertaken by both councils," he said.
The project, which also saw the renovation of Carlingford Lough, was made possible by Interreg IIIA funding.
